Works of the Flesh Part 1

Living according to the flesh.       Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Galatians 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

(Adultery) Sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not his or her spouse.

Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

(Fornication) Sexual intercourse between people not married and lustful thoughts toward another person.

1 Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

(Uncleanness) Consisting of inordinate and unclean affections, foul with sin.

Romans 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:

(Lasciviousness) Wantonness, unbridled lust of the flesh.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

(Idolatry) Worshiping any other god or coveting things.

Exodus 20:3-4 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven or any likeness of that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Colossians 3:5 Covetousness, which is idolatry:

Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

(Witchcraft) The practice of magic; the use of spells and the invocation of spirits and rebellion against God.

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

(Hatred) The hate of any person.

1 John 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

(Variance) Contention, debate, strife which many are guilty of on the internet forums.

(Emulations) To provoke to jealously or rivalry; desire of superiority.

The rest of the living according to the flesh will be in Part 2.
