Climate change brings the specter of new infectious diseases

The landscape of infectious diseases is constantly evolving, with outbreaks, mutations, emerging pathogens, and increasing resistance putting pressure on healthcare systems.

One of the prophecies in the Bible of the end of the world is diseases.

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and Diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

A group of specialists in infectious diseases is urging the medical community to be more alert and prepared for climate change’s increasing impact on disease transmission and spread.

Medical practitioners must be well-equipped and prepared to deal with the ever-changing infectious disease landscape. As emphasized by a professor of medical microbiology and immunology at UC Davis, it is imperative to maintain a high level of alertness and suspicion toward diseases that may be on the move. By doing so, we can ensure the safety and well-being of our communities and provide the best possible care to those who need it most.

The scientists analyzed the changing patterns of infectious diseases, caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, or parasites, which are often transmitted from animals to humans or between people.

During their discussion, the team focused on vector-borne diseases, which are transmitted by carriers such as mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. Notably, there were cases of tick-borne illnesses in January and February.

Tick season is starting earlier this year with more active ticks in a wider range, leading to a rise in tick bites and related diseases. Recent research highlights the changing patterns of zoonotic diseases, such as the plague and hantavirus, transmitted by rodents.

Animal migrations and habitat encroachments bring diseases closer to humans, risking cross-species transmission.

Waterborne diseases caused by bacteria like E. coli and Vibrio are a serious threat to public health. The presence of these diseases in water supplies can cause widespread illness and even death. By implementing proper sanitation and water treatment methods, we can significantly reduce the risk of these diseases and protect the well-being of our communities.

The researchers recommend strengthening infectious disease surveillance systems and training clinicians to anticipate and reliably identify changes in infectious disease patterns.

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and “diseases”; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
