Why does the Bible Teach Prayer is Important

Prayer is in the Scriptures more than 200 times; every Christian should want to pray and know that God wants them to pray.

Prayer is a way to communicate to God and tell him our needs as well as appreciate him for what he has done for us.

1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

1 John 4:10  Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

There are so many reasons why to pray.

Prayer is important to Christians because it starts a conversation with God. Prayer strengthens our faith and trust in God.

Prayer allows for intercession for our loved ones and others.

Prayer allows Christians to explain what is on their minds and their hearts.

Prayer is the way to confess sins and ask for forgiveness.

I will cover just a few scriptures to encourage every Christian to pray daily.

1 Thessalonians 5:16 Rejoice evermore.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

A prayer is an act of worship; it teaches us to depend on God. We don’t have to kneel or sit. We can pray while walking, driving, or working.

Jesus is our example, and he prayed to the Father.

Matthew 14:23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

When the devil comes to us and temptation, we can defeat the devil and temptation with prayer.

Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Hebrews 4:16 Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Prayer gives us power over evil and lets us participate with God in the battle against evil.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Prayer is about communication with the living God.

Psalms 145:18 The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

Our decisions in life should be prayed about.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Mark 11:25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort, therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men.

Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Psalms 145:18 The Lord is close unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

We should praise God.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Psalms 150:1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

Psalms 150:6  Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
