What is Christian liberalism and the Danger in its Teaching

Christian liberalism or progressive teaching considers modern world knowledge, science, and ethics. It emphasizes the importance of reason and experience over Biblical authority.

Liberal or progressive Christians view their beliefs as an alternative to theologies based on traditional interpretations of the authority of the Bible.

Liberalism or progressive teaching is the root of heresy, the radical and universal denial of all divine truth, and is sin.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

The danger is their teachings are contrary to what the Bible teaches. They speak evil of the real truth that comes from the Bible and seek after teachers out of their own lustful beliefs that oppose Biblical truth.

2 Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.

The Bible speaks that in later times some will abandon the true faith of God and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

Liberal or progressive false teaching denies key doctrines like the infallibility of Scripture. They deny that the Bible is the “Authoritative Word of God” and that scripture is entirely free from all falsehood and serves as the final rule of faith and practice.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2 Timothy 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Because it denies the truthfulness and reliability of Scripture, it denies God and Jesus, the son of God.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Liberalism or progressive teaching rejects biblical sexual morality as many major mainline denominations, like the Presbyterian Church of the United States, most United Methodist churches, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, American Baptists, and the Episcopal Church, are all LGBT-affirming.

Once a denomination, church, pastor, or Christian leader adopts the core teachings of liberal teachings, progressive Bible-denying political positions will also become their teachings.

Jude warns of these lustful acts and the consequence of doing them.

Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

This evil liberalism or progressive teaching is so dangerous because it destroys the redemption that comes from the true teachings of the Bible and of the redemption that comes from the Biblical Jesus Christ.

You don’t have to go to a liberal church to be a liberal.

2 Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 Timothy 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

2 Timothy 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

2 Timothy 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

2 Timothy 3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

2 Timothy 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

2 Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

Romans 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Romans 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served themselves more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Romans 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient.

The book of Jude speaks of what the church needs to return to.

Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
