What is the Christian New Year

March 15 was considered the start of the new year on the old Roman calendar, also known as the Julian calendar.

The Gregorian Calendar, which we use, marks January 1st as the beginning of the New Year.

The first month on the Jewish calendar is Tishri, which falls during September and October on the Gregorian calendar.

This is the celebration of Israel’s New Year on the first day of Tishri, which is a holy convocation and a memorial of the blowing of trumpets.

Today is Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, celebrated on Tishri 1 with the blowing of trumpets throughout the day.

Leviticus 23:23  And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Leviticus 23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

Leviticus 23:25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

The Jewish tradition holds that Adam’s birthday is also the birthday of Jesus Christ, recognized by some Biblical scholars as the last Adam.

1 Corinthians 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

1 Corinthians 15:46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

1 Corinthians 15:47 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord.

I believe we’ll all be glad to welcome the new year with prayer, rejoicing, and hope that it will be better than the last.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

Romans 13:13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
