Thanksgiving is a good time to remember the poor and starving around the world

Many people in the world have little or nothing to eat.

Over 9 million people die of starvation every year, and most are children. So, if you live in a country that has plenty of food, then you have a reason to be thankful.

A man asked Jesus what do I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus replied:

Luke 10:27 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.

The man asked Jesus who is my neighbor? Jesus replies by telling a story about a man who is robbed and left for dead and how three people encounter him, and only one stops to help, while the other two avoid him and give him no help.

Today that reminds us of all the people starving in other countries, and people avoid them and give them no help. Jesus tells the story of how one person stops and helps the man.

At the end of the story, he asks these three neighbors unto him, and the man’s answer is the one that stopped and helped him. And Jesus answered, go and do likewise. So Jesus said that to love your neighbor was to help those in need.

So the question to you this Thanksgiving is, are you going to help the poor and hungry and love your neighbor, or are you going to pass by and avoid them?

There are many promises in the Bible for giving to the poor and hungry. What a great opportunity this Thanksgiving to give to the poor and hungry and receive a blessing from God.
