Greenland’s Glaciers Are Melting Seven Times Faster

Warm ocean water moving underneath Greenland’s glaciers is causing them to melt.

An ice tongue is a piece of ice that floats on the water without breaking off from the ice on land. The one scientists are studying is called the 79° North Glacier, in northeast Greenland, and is nearly 50 miles long.

An underwater current over a mile wide lets warm water from the Atlantic Ocean flow directly to the glacier, bringing large amounts of heat into contact with the ice and causing the glacier to melt.

The ice sheet of Greenland is currently the single largest reason for sea-level rise globally. Greenland’s ice sheet is melting seven times faster than it was in 1992.

This ice sheet holds enough water to raise sea levels globally by more than 24 feet. Record temperatures last summer were the reason for the ice sheet to lose 11 billion tons of water in just one day.

In the month of July, it lost 197 billion tons.

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
