Chinese Government Cracks Down on Leading Christian Prayer App, Bans It From Download

In China, the Bible and Christian apps are not safe from censorship. Pray.com, which is a spiritual platform filled with faith-based content, daily Bible-reading plans, and spiritual development programs, is the latest app to face the axe. Despite the fact that the platform has helped spread knowledge of Scripture to those from whom it has been withheld, it is now being censored.

China has banned an app that violates their “Measures for the Administration of Internet Religious Information Services” as of March 2022. The app is being removed from the Apple App Store in mainland China.

The Congressional-Executive Commission on China, which is an independent agency of the U.S. government that monitors human rights in China, has reported that new restrictions were imposed in 2022. Under these restrictions, individuals are required to obtain a government-issued permit to share any religious content online. Furthermore, the online broadcasting of religious ceremonies, events, and worship services have been banned completely.

The removal of the Pray.com app comes ahead of the National Day of Prayer on May 2.

Under Xi’s regime, the Chinese Communist Party is rewriting Scripture and calling Jesus a “sinner.” According to The Voice of the Martyrs, a watchdog monitoring Christian persecution around the world, the CCP announced in 2019 it would begin the process of “updat[ing] the Bible to ‘keep pace with the times.

2 Timothy 3:16  All scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The revisions will include adding ‘core socialist values’ and removing passages that do not reflect communist beliefs,” VOM said. “In a textbook for high school students released in September 2020, the authors included a passage from John 8, as revised in their new version.

Chinese authorities are testing an app requiring citizens to pre-register before attending religious services. According to VOM, the app was recently launched and is designed to obtain approval for attending any kind of religious service. In other words, individuals who wish to attend religious services must have the app installed on their phones.

You must provide your personal information, including ID details, to pre-register for a religious gathering in China.

2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

1 Peter 3:17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
