Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

Proverbs 14:21 He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

Proverbs 14:31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

Proverbs 22:9  He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

Proverbs 31:9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

School closures and other lockdown-related restrictions are also exposing children to increased hunger, violence, and sexual exploitation.

As the pandemic wreaks havoc on family incomes, without support, many will resort to child labor. COVID-19 results in a rise in poverty and therefore to an increase in child labor as households use every available means to survive.

The number of people requiring life-saving food assistance could double to 265 million people worldwide.

COVID-19 is disrupting routine health services that are likely to increase disease incidences and deaths from preventable and treatable diseases, especially children.

Malaria is one of the leading causes of death globally, the disruptions caused by COVID-19 in accessing mosquito nets and antimalarial medicines.

Children make up 59% of Africa’s refugee and asylum seeker populations, who are also facing higher limitations to access to health and alternative education systems.

In East Africa, swarms of desert locusts have destroyed farms and grazing fields. In Southern Africa, droughts and floods have left 45 million people hungry and without any food security.
