Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the United States on Tuesday against ordering a “decapitation strike” on President Vladimir Putin.
Lavrov’s comments refer to an anonymous U.S. military official telling Newsweek back in September that a special operation “to kill Putin in the heart of the Kremlin” had been “front and center” among the options being considered by the U.S. in response to Putin’s escalating nuclear rhetoric.
“Some unnamed officials from the Pentagon threatened to deliver a decapitation strike against the Kremlin,” Lavrov told Russia’s TASS news agency in an interview.
Describing the plans as “essentially a threat to remove the Russian head of state physically,” Lavrov warned of “consequences” should any such attack ever be carried out.
The Russian embassy in Washington slammed the decapitation option as “reckless” and “delusional” at the time.
Lavrov also accused the United States and its NATO allies of seeking to defeat Russia on the battlefield to weaken or destroy the country. He also blamed the Biden administration for preventing normalizing relations between the U.S. and Russia.
Russia threatened the U.S. with new forms of military escalation if it followed through on reported plans to send Patriot missile batteries to Ukraine, saying it would invariably become directly involved in the war.
“Such a step would lead to an escalation of the conflict and increase the risk of direct involvement of the American army in hostilities,” warned Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
Some dangerous military escalations have already begun. The Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday shared a video that showed the loading of an intercontinental ballistic missile into a silo launcher in a town in western Russia.
The Yars missile has a nuclear warhead, and Moscow test-fired it in October as a part of pre-planned nuclear weapons exercises. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman has repeatedly said that Russia would consider Patriot missile batteries in Ukraine legitimate military targets.
We have heads of state in America and Russia throwing around the word nuclear like they were talking about sharing candy. This talk of nuclear weapons is irresponsible and of the devil.

Millions of lives are being threatened by this reckless talk. Even in movies, they show the possibility of a nuclear bomb going off is horrendous.
