Solar flares? Russian nukes? Theories swirl about what caused the nationwide cell outage. AT&T has released a statement following a widespread network outage that affected mobile users across the United States today.
Theories about Thursday’s massive disruption swirled on social media, with blame for the widespread outage leveled at US foes Russia and China, as well as aliens, solar flares, and even Netflix, which some suggested created the havoc to promote an apocalyptic film with an eerily similar tech blackout.
The outage occurred one week after concerns were raised about Russia’s alleged satellite-killing and nuclear ambitions in space, which caused some members of Congress to panic.
Thursday morning, people from California to South Carolina reported being unable to use their phones due to a lack of signal. The issues began at around 4 am Eastern Time, with up to 64,000 outages reported.
Major cities (Houston, Atlanta, Chicago) had connectivity issues along with customers in Los Angeles, New York, and Hawaii. T-Mobile, Verizon, Cricket Wireless & smaller companies faced network outages.
FirstNet and Verizon were affected by the recent connectivity issues, causing some customers to experience problems when calling or texting customers served by another carrier. AT&T, the largest phone company in America with 240 million users, has not made an official statement regarding the issue yet.
Customers are angry about a major cellular network outage that seems to have happened nationwide, if not internationally. Some are speculating that it could be a cyber attack or a satellite malfunction. Reports suggest that the outage started with @ATT and later affected other phones, including @TMobile, @Verizon, and more.

US pharmacies are delayed in filling prescription orders due to a cyberattack on Change Healthcare, a major healthcare technology company. The company noticed the “cyber security issue” on Wednesday morning.
“Change Healthcare is addressing a network interruption due to a cyber security issue. We disconnected our systems immediately upon realizing the threat to protect our partners and patients.”
Change Healthcare said in a statement. Pharmacies across the country have put out notices that the attack on Change Healthcare is disrupting their ability to process patients’ orders.”The estimated date for resolving this issue will be tomorrow or later. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on our progress. There is a nationwide outage from some of the largest prescription processors in North America,”
On Wednesday, Michigan-based Canadian Lakes Pharmacy announced on social media that they can receive your prescription, but most insurance plans cannot be billed to insurance companies.
“If you are able to wait for a day or so, it would be great if you could pick up your prescription. However, if you need it urgently, we will try our best to accommodate your individual needs. Change Healthcare has not provided a definite timeline for service restoration, but the service outage is expected to continue until tomorrow.”
