Pentecost is the First Fruits: and Jesus’ Resurrection

Passover is when the children of Israel were saved from death by the blood of an innocent lamb.

We, too, are saved by the blood of an innocent lamb, which is Jesus’s blood.

Pentecost means fifty, which is how many days after Passover is Pentecost that are the first fruits and Jesus’s resurrection.

1 Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

Hebrews 9:22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.

First Fruits or Pentecost is a biblical festival celebrating the first harvest of crops. The Israelites were commanded to honor God by bringing the best of the first fruits to the house of God.

Exodus 23:19  The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring into the house of the Lord your God.

In Hebrew, the First Fruits festival is known as Shavuot, Hebrew for Weeks. During First Fruits in Biblical times, Jews from other regions would travel to the temple in Jerusalem to celebrate.

First Fruits was the time of year when God gave the Ten Commandments and the Law of Moses to the children of Israel.

On the day of Pentecost, the Spirit fell in the upper room. The disciples spoke in foreign languages whilst tongues of fire descended upon their heads. This was the day of the beginning of the church.

Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

On the day of Pentecost, Jesus was resurrected and became what Paul describes in 1st Corinthians as “the First Fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

1 Corinthians 15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

Not only is Jesus called the first fruits but Christians are called first fruits.

James 1:18  Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Romans 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

1 Corinthians 15:40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

1 Corinthians 15:41 There is one glory of the sun and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

1 Corinthians 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

1 Corinthians 15:43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

1 Corinthians 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

1 Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

1 Corinthians 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1 Corinthians 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

1 Corinthians 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work sin.
