The Great Recital: 5 Days of Speakers Reciting Entire New Testament from Memory

The Institute for Creation Research (ICR) is hosting a celebratory recitation of God’s word. Several speakers will recite the entire New Testament, word for word, from memory in an event billed as “The Great Recital” on Oct.11-15 at the ICR’s new Discovery Center in Dallas, Texas.

Professor Tom Meyer, also known as The Bible Memory Man, who can quote over 20 complete books of the Bible and others, will perform a dramatic presentation of the New Testament daily. Tickets are not required to attend The Great Recital.

Meyer said that such a New Testament event has never happened before in the history of the church “where all 27 books, all 260 chapters, all 8,000 plus verses, all 180,000 words are going to be spoken word for word from memory.”

“And in doing this, number one, we’re doing this right before the midterms,” he explained. “A public proclamation of the word of the living God to let the nation know, and to let individuals know what God requires of thee.

Number two, we want people to understand that these are just common, normal people reciting God’s word from memory. And if they can do it, if they can memorize large portions of scripture, those watching from home can do it too, and receive the blessing that can come from it.

Reciting the Bible in public was a tradition among the Israelites, and this special event coincides with the Jewish holiday known as the “Feast of the Tabernacles.”

I believe memorizing scriptures is a great way to apply God’s truth to your life. But understanding the truth of the word has to be first.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The way to be transformed by renewing your mind is to study the word.

2 Timothy 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

To study the word, you must rightly divide the word of truth.

A strong’s concordance to understand the meaning of words is important to study and look up all the verses on a subject. Take any subject you are interested in and copy down all the scriptures about that word and look up all those scriptures and you will find the truth of that subject.

If you want to know about baptizing, look up all scriptures on baptizing and study them and learn what the word has to teach you. It’s easier first to study scriptures just in the New Testament to understand the truth of certain subjects, and later you can go to the Old Testament if you like.

Memorizing scriptures is great, but more important is understanding the truth of the word and applying the truth to your life daily. And this can only be done by studying the Bible and rightly dividing the truth.

James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

Proverbs 4:21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

Proverbs 4:22 For they are life unto those that (find) them, and health to all their flesh.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that (find) it.

In the last days which we are living in now, people will be ever learning, but they never come to know the truth!

2 Timothy Chapter 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 Timothy 2:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Colossians 3:20 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
