Chinese scientists are planning to fire more than 20 rockets into space to divert an Asteroid impact that has a small chance of one-day ending life on earth. Their target is the asteroid Bennu, an 85.5 million tonnes space rock.
Bennu as wide as the Empire State Building. In other words, a collision with the earth will be a catastrophe.
The estimated kinetic energy of Benne’s collision with the Earth is 1,200 megatons, which is about 80,000 times the energy of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Chinese researchers want to practice turning a sizable asteroid away from the Earth using a fleet of rockets.
This plan could be essential to saving humanity if a large enough asteroid is on a collision course for our planet. Chinese researchers have a plan to launch 23 of China’s rockets that will simultaneously hit the asteroid and push it 5,592 miles off course.
The diversion would knock the asteroid off course by 1.4 times the Earth’s radius, successfully avoiding a collision. China is not the only country with an asteroid preparation plan.
The U.S. has also developed an asteroid response plan called hammer which stands for Hypervelocity Asteroid Mitigation Mission for Emergency Response.
The U.S. plan involves launching 34 to 35 rockets that would hit an asteroid in an attempt to destroy it. There is one substantially-sized asteroid called Bennu currently orbiting the sun, which scientists consider the potential destruction is enough to warrant concern.
