Christians are to be Watchers for Jesus’s Return

Ancient cities often stationed watchmen on high walls or in watchtowers to keep watch and warn the townspeople of danger.

In times of war, the watchman in the watchtower would scan the horizon, looking for any sign of the approaching enemy. Once he spotted the runner racing back to the city to report on the battle, he knew it was time to prepare.

The word “watcher” or “watchman” comes from the Greek word “Gregorio,” which means “to watch and keep awake.” Nowadays, it is the responsibility of every Christian to remain vigilant for the return of Jesus.

It is the responsibility of preachers, teachers, and churches to warn their congregations and those living in sin about the return of Jesus.

In many churches today, leaders have spiritually fallen asleep and are more interested in worldly pleasures. They often fleece their flocks for personal gain. This is often visible on TV, where many preachers exploit their congregations.

Are you aware that the Bible encourages us to be watchers for the second coming of Jesus and the end times? It is important to remember that we should remain watchful and prepared for these events.

1 Thessalonians 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

1 Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

1 Thessalonians 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but “let us watch” and be sober.

The scriptures found in Isaiah 56 remind me of numerous false preachers and teachers that exist today.

Isaiah 56:10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

Isaiah 56:11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

Ezekial 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Ezekial 3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turns not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

Ezekial 3:20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling-block before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

Ezekial 3:21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and CARES OF THIS LIFE, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Luke 21:35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

Luke 21:36 Watch ye, therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Matt 24:45-46 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

We need to warn people about the return of Jesus and the end time and encourage them to turn to God and away from sin during these challenging times.
