Sentient means Living, able to perceive or feel things.
“AI is artificial intelligence, which means humans create it and do not possess the capacity for sentience or self-awareness.”
A former Google engineer, who often personifies AI bots, describes them as having human emotions and tendencies when asked.
In June 2022, The Washington Post reported that Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications had developed a “mind of its own.”
“I Worked on Google’s AI. My Fears Are Coming True”, the Google engineer stated in the essay’s headline. When the LaMDA chatbot engine said it was feeling anxious, the engineer said he “understood” that he had done something that made it feel anxious based on the code that was used to create it.
He said he was fired by Google after he published the conversations, but he has no regrets because he believes he did the right thing by informing the public, and the consequences don’t matter to him.
The engineer working at Google revealed that he decided to make his concerns public because he believed that people were not fully aware of the rapid advancements in AI technology. He further added that he felt that it was crucial to start a public discourse about this topic, which should not be controlled by any corporate PR department.
