A new “end of the world” reality: Spain’s extreme drought

Spain’s drought-stricken villages are facing a crisis due to three years of low rainfall and record-high temperatures. Climate change is expected to worsen the situation, heating up the Mediterranean area faster than other regions.

Catalonia, in northeastern Spain, declared a state of emergency due to an extreme drought. The region includes Barcelona, the sixth-largest metropolitan area in the EU. The government is taking steps to store dwindling water reserves.

According to recent warnings, the upcoming months and years could be challenging due to an ongoing drought. The president of Catalonia has explained that certain regions within the area have not experienced rainfall for three years or more than 1,000 days. The drought has become prolonged, and as a result, the government is actively working to address this state of emergency.

The government of Catalonia has declared the current situation the most severe drought in modern history. Water reserves, which rely on the two main rivers in the region, have declined to only 16%. In response to the plummeting reserves, the government has enforced several water restrictions.

Public pools and beach showers have been fully closed. Agricultural irrigation systems will also see a 20% reduction. As of November 2022, the reserves were at 35%, and restrictions were already in place. The authorities believed that these measures could prevent the reserves from falling further.

Unfortunately, the reserves are now at 16% capacity, which is down by more than 50% since 2022.

Droughts have been a persistent issue in California, affecting most of the West. In Colorado, officials are considering shutting off the irrigation of 25,000 acres of farmland to conserve the state’s limited water reserves.

25% of irrigated land will lose its water source, forcing crops to rely on nature or die. This may help meet the state’s water requirements.

If the necessary measures are not taken, officials in Colorado might have to shut down the wells on over 500,000 acres of land to conserve the scarce water in the state’s drought-stricken reservoirs. Given the water scarcity issue in the West and Colorado’s obligations to supply water to other states, the state must make some difficult choices to preserve its water resources.

Local governments and locals in the region have long been concerned about the lack of water. With the Colorado River Basin losing up to 10 trillion gallons, water scarcity poses a threat to many people’s livelihoods.

Colorado’s biggest reservoirs, Lake Mead and Lake Powell, may soon become dead pools. They’ve reached a critical water level at which downstream flow is no longer possible.

It is the end of the world, whether one chooses to accept this fact or not. It will be similar to Noah’s time when many continued with their daily lives without repenting or acknowledging the clear signs of the end time.

Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Matthew 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

Matthew 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

2 Chronicles 7:13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send diseases among my people;

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
